Assistant Principal, Panther Creek High School in Cary, NC
Mr. Jonathan Chang has been serving the most extensive public school system, Wake County in North Carolina, since 2006. There are very few Asian American educators out there, let alone Korean American educators. In March, during the initial months of the pandemic, he took on a great initiative in navigating the shift to online learning. It was interesting to see the behind-the-scenes school administration’s decisions regarding this academic year, going virtual, accommodating teachers and online education, etc. Mr. Chang has also provided more support than ever for faculty and staff who are anxious about COVID-19 and have been uneasy teaching on-site at school despite students not being in the building. Every day, he is at school to support teachers in remote learning and to work with student-athletes. Thanks to his efforts, the school is administering the latest COVID-19 procedures.
